''Committed to ensuring that Europe's food is safe''



The European Food Safety Authority was set up in January 2002, following a series of food crises in the late 1990s, as an independent source of scientific advice and communication on risks associated with the food chain. EFSA was created as part of a comprehensive programme to improve EU food safety, ensure a high level of consumer protection and restore and maintain confidence in the EU food supply. 


The key feature of efficient management of food and feed safety is good cooperation. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Management Board has therefore adopted a strategy on cooperation with Member States, in which it requests Member States to set up national Focal Points which organise and coordinate risk assessment work at the national level, and participate in the preparation and implementation of the EFSA work programme. 


In Slovenia, the Agreement establishing the national Focal Point was concluded with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food  - role and tasks of the EFSA National Focal Point.
