One of the priority tasks of EFSA is to promote the European networking of organisations operating in the fields within its mission.


In compliance with Article 36 of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 28 January 2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety, Member States must designate competent organisations which may assist the Authority with its mission.


The organisations designated

  • they must carry out tasks in the fields within the mission of the Authority;
  • they must be legal entities pursuing public interest objectives;
  • they must possess a high level of scientific or technical expertise; and
  • they must have the capacity to operate in a network of scientific actions.

Detailed rules for the implementation of the European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 with regard to the network of organisations operating in the fields within the European Food Safety Authority's are laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) No 2230 /2004. 


Designated organisations from Slovenia:


The Authority entrusts these competent organisations with certain scientific and technical support tasks, such as collection and analysis of data connected with risk identification, exposure to risks, risk assessment, food or feed safety assessment, scientific and technical studies, or scientific or technical assistance for risk managers.
