Agriculture ministers in Luxembourg on CAP simplifications

Luxembourg, 10 October 2016 – The EU ministers responsible for agriculture met today for the EU Council meeting under the Slovak Presidency. Slovenia’s representative was Minister Dejan Židan.

Today’s meeting focused on a discussion on the proposal for the Omnibus Regulation amending the basic regulations in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In the first part of the meeting, Slovenia presented conclusions from the conference "The Consumer Has the Right to Know", which was held in Maribor earlier this year. In his presentation, Minister Židan highlighted that the conference was aimed at exchanging views on an important issue for the EU consumer, i.e. information on place/country of origin and the question of what possibilities we have to provide better and accurate informing of the consumer. In the evening, the ministers are to discuss items regarding fisheries, the most important being a discussion on setting quotas for certain fish stocks applicable in the Baltic Sea for 2017.
