Minister Židan attends the Vino Ljubljana award ceremony

Ljubljana, 13 October 2016 – Yesterday Minister Dejan Židan attended the award ceremony following the 58th Vino Ljubljana international evaluation of wines held in June: "Many people would not take such a risk, but you were prepared to present your products to impartial evaluators. That shows courage. To me, you are all winners merely by daring to take this step," said the Minister in his introduction.

Yesterday afternoon, the 58th Vino Ljubljana international evaluation of wines awards were conferred at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre. Several Slovenian wines were placed among the world wine champions, which further strengthens Slovenia’s position on the world wine map. The event is considered an introduction to Ljubljana’s autumn wine fair and is one of the oldest such events in the world.

Minister Židan awarded the title "World Champion" to the best of the wines presented. Four such champions were from Slovenia – Vino Gaube’s 2015 Muscat Blanc, Istenič’s 2003 Gourmet Rosé, Radgona Gold sparkling wine from the Radgonske Gorice Cellar and Prus Wine Cellar’s 1999 Sauvignon Blanc. One World Champion award went to Slovakia and another to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. "Only those cellars and producers who can make a profit from their work have a bright future," said the clearly delighted minister, who was encouraged by the changing atmosphere in the wine sector.
